Ski Touring in Greenland from a boat

  • Greenland ... a huge white mass deposited on our world maps, a touch of mystery and allure of a land untouched by exploration. At these latitudes, mass tourism does not exist. Greenland is one of those destinations still carrying the promise of adventure.

Our area is considered one of the most beautiful in Greenland and offers unlimited skiing with wide valleys, sparkling glaciers and an almost continuous view of the sea. We are far, very far, from our massive in a universe suffused with an almost divine aura in which the glide is unreal.

Point cottage or refuge as their headquarters. The uniqueness of this atypical stay is to offer accommodation on an authentic sailing ship 56 meters long, which will wet every night near the fjords with breathtaking views of the mountains and surrounding glaciers plunging directly into the waters ice of Baffin Bay!

This trip is aimed at good level of backcountry skiers seeking new spaces. Sometimes sailing, sometimes downhill to the sound of guillemots and seagulls will accompany the vessel's progress, this trip invites hikers to ski some of the highest mountains in the fjord of Eternity, (Evighedsfjorden)! A true free ride Arctic living on land that remains confidential. A once-in-a-lifetime trip...

  • Day 1 - We meet in Copenhaguen the day before or meet directly in the airport of Maniitsoq.

Day 2 - East of Hamborgerland we reach the fantastic landscapes of the Sermilinguaq Fjord, where we will sail by colonies of Brünnich’s Guillemot and Kittiwake. The Maniitsoq area offers the most rugged scenery and mountain tops are flanked by glaciers reaching down to the sea. We sail to the fjord of Appamiut Kangerluarsuat and spend the night there.

Day 3 - We have many choices in this area to climb mountains from shore to the top. In the afternoon we aim for a mountain range north of Kangerluarsuat. The group will be shuttled back to the ship which will pick us up at the narrow strait of Kujataa Tunua for a scenic evening sail into Evighedsfjorden (EternityFjord).

Day 4 - Today we aim for an unnamed 1135 m high alpine peak. The view across Evighedsfjorden (Eternity Fjord) is magnificent. Once skiers reassemble back on the ship we will sail further into Eternity Fjord and stop at the large seabird colony of Taaterat (Kittiwake).

Day 5 - Ski mountaineers may even scale the highest mountain top in this area (1700 m). In the evening we will sail further into the mighty Eternity Fjord.

Day 6 - The alpine peaks of Evighedsfjorden offer many possibilities for ski mountaineers. We visit Kangaamiut. Hunting and fishing in the rich fjords and back country sustain a population of 350 people. In this area we often see Humpback Whale.

Day 7 - At the North side of Sermersuut (Hamborgerland) we ski for the last time into the glaciated interior of this beautiful and unique wilderness.

Day 8 - We disembark in Maniitsoq and board the charter plane from Maniitsoq to Copenhaguen.

  • Our boat was originally built as a herring lugger. The vessel was rebuilt as a three-masted passenger sailing schooner in 1994 and sailed in Spitsbergen (1994 – 1996) and in Galápagos (1998 - 2001). The vessel underwent a complete rebuilding and refurbishment program in 2011.

The vessel measures 56 meters in length (168 ft.), 7 meters in width and has a draft of 2, 5 meters. The ship can accommodate a maximum of 34 passengers in 17 twin cabins. The general interior public areas include a spacious restaurant area so that all meals can be taken together as well as separate bar area and reading table area. There is room to relax, read and socialize.

The ship is well suited for expedition cruising among small islands and offers excellent open deck viewing areas, even when under sail.

The communication and navigation equipment has been completely renewed in 2011 according to the latest SOLAS regulations.
